Time For Something Different: The Dance Time Story
After spending her life dancing and teaching, Britt Johnson was rather picky when it came to her children’s dance classes. After trying studio after studio, she noticed a pattern. Beginning classes are often unstructured. She felt her children needed more consistency. As she watched her kids dance from a lobby of a studio, she started writing down ideas of what she really wanted to see in her kids’ class. Pretty soon, she had weeks worth of curriculum. As a fitness instructor, Britt was required to be trained and certified to teach specific types of classes. Classes like Zumba and High Fitness were always the most popular because students knew what kind of class they were going to, what to expect, and that their teacher was well trained. She then realized that’s what was missing from childrens dance and Dance Time was born.
Dance Time was developed to benefit everyone involved in dance education- Teachers, Parents, and Students.
This non-competitive program has elements of the Play Based Learning Theory. Children will play developmental activities along to songs that also teach dance technique and skills.
Dance Time provides a way for teachers to make their own schedule and cater their class sizes and times to meet their needs and the needs of their students.
